LNG supply backs to normal

The stuck ships carrying imported liquified natural gas (LNG) on the Bay of Bengal have been anchored in the port and started unloading on Monday.

The ships remained stuck in the sea for more than a day due to rough weather with deep depression, causing a disruption in gas supply, particularly to industries.

“LNG unloading has already been started. The consumers, including industries, will no longer suffer from disruption in gas supply,” Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company (RPGCL) Deputy General Manager Rafiqul Islam said.

However, gas pressure might be lower in the different areas of the country, he told the Business Insider Bangladesh.

“Normally, we keep a flow of 800 to 850 million cubic feet per day gas supply, but due to the disruption, we are supplying 750 million cubic feet to 800 million cubic feet to the distribution line,” added Rafiqul.

However, the distribution companies kept gas distribution to households and power plants on a priority basis last day despite the LNG supply shortage.

If the weather remains normal, the authorities will continue the regular gas supply, officials said.
